Solo Dios – God Alone – This was the theme of the High School High Acoustic Jam of the Youth for Christ High School Based Iloilo last August 28, 2017 at the Angelicum School, Jaro, Iloilo City. The event was participated in by different schools from various sectors in the province. During the said activity, Rev. Fr. Ramon Claro Mendez OP, the Director of Angelicum School, welcomed the whole delegation in behalf of the Angelicum and the Dominican community and bid them with a blessed encounter with the Lord by reminding them that “the very poetry of God the Father is Jesus Christ himself.”

The atmosphere was filled with fun as the activity took place. There were vocal solo pop competitions, dance competitions, and acoustic band competitions, wherein the host school won 3rd place. The spiritual essence of the event was emphasized in the praise and worship jams, acoustic jams, and, most importantly, in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, which was presided over by Rev. Fr. Randy Doromal, the spiritual director of the Couples of Christ and the head of the Archdiocesan Commission on Family Life in the Archdiocese of Jaro. He said in his homily that the youth should know the importance of the Word, “focus”, which should not only be visible within us, but also in the people around us. He said that in order to have focus, one should have faith and faithfulness, openness and obedience, celebration and communion, uphold Christian values and virtues, and service.

The highlight of the day’s event was the acoustic jam, which entirely centered on the theme of having true happiness in God alone. The inspirational sessions were given by Kuya Genesis, who directly came from Cagayan just to grace the said event. Young people joined in the singing and were very participative because of the “hugot” lines that were mentioned in some parts of the session. Two youth leaders from the YFC community, namely Bro. Richmond and Sis. Johanna Marie, gave their testimony on how they have found true happiness when they encountered Christ in the said religious organization. The whole day’s activity ended with a call to commit their lives to serve Christ as they found deep and satisfying joy in Him, despite all the trials that might come in their life.
