Promoting vocations by the Franciscan, Dominican and La Mennais congregations is truly a different experience. Moving around Aklan and Antique in six days was tiresome, but a meaningful and joyful experience. Truly, vocations can be found everywhere; but we only need to bring awareness to the youngsters in school and Churches to let them discover their vocation.
Sr. Sharon Templanza, FMIJ, and Sr. Annabelle Pinos, FMIJ, from the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Infant Jesus organized vocation campaign around the provinces of Aklan and Antique. The invitation was extended to the Dominican Province of the Philippines (Br. Mhel Garcia, OP), Dominican Sisters of Peace (Sr. Lorna Ablog, OP) and the La Mannais Brothers (Br. Bobot Fernandez).
The schools that we visited were: Aklan State University, St. Joseph Academy in Malinao, Aklan, Batan Integrated School of Technology College, Altavas National High School and Yapak National High School, Boracay. Along the way, we also took advantage of posting our vocation materials in the parishes nearby.
It was heart-warming to re-discover how the deep sense of religiosity could be surmised from the faith of the students with their warmth and sense of openness. It was noticeable though how they misconceived the vocation to priesthood as one among the professional careers. It was great to have enlightened their young minds that priesthood and religious life were a calling from God to do service to Him and to His people.
We thank the people who were one with us in this journey of inviting people to serve in the vineyard of the Lord. May you be blessed a hundredfold!
