Rev. Fr. Rui Carlos Antunes e Almeida Lopes, OP, Promoter General of Dominican Laity, visited Bui Chu and Thai Binh dioceses in Hanoi on August 07, 2017 on the celebration of the Feast of St. Dominic. The Asia-Pacific Coordinator of Lay Dominicans on the International Council, Belen Lorezca-Tangco, OP was with him in addressing some 15 thousands of Lay Dominicans gathered in the Bui Chu Cathedral and open areas where the procession of the image of St. Dominic took place. The bishop, vicar of the bishop and the Diocesan Promoter welcomed them. In Thai Binh diocese, the bishop presided over the Eucharistic Celebration attended by five thousand Lay Dominicans. The Dominican Fathers hosted them at the Dominican residence. Rev. Fr. Vincent Lu Ha, OP, who served as Socius to the Master for Asia- Pacific, graciously interpreted talks for Fr. Rui and Dr. Belen before thousands of Lay Dominicans.
In Ho Chi Minh City, they were received by the Lay Dominican National Service Council and were hosted at the Curia -Provincialate by the Prior Provincial, Rev. Fr. Joseph Nguyen Duc Hoa, OP. Fr. Joseph accompanied them at the Eucharistic Celebration and Program at St. Martin de Porres Parish, Xuan Loc, Diocese where many thousands of Lay Dominicans actively participated in the Dominican celebration.
Mr. Vicente Libo-on of the Provincial Secretariat, Dominican Province of the Philippines and of Lay Dominican Regional Secretariat, and the National Service Council Officers of Vietnam headed by Mr. Joseph Do An Ninh, OP, National President, also graced the diocesan visits on August 5-13, 2017. Ms. Maria Hoang Kim Dung, OP, a professed Lay Dominican joyfully served as interpreter.
To date, there are 117,138 Vietnamese Lay Dominicans.
