The House of St. Dominic in Sri Lanka welcomed with joy and in anticipation the canonical visit of the Provincial, Br. Napoleon B. Sipalay Jr., OP, in the first week of August, 2017. He was accompanied by Br. Jose Martin L. Sibug, OP, the Mission Promoter of the Province. They were accommodated in the newly built Holy Rosary Seminary at 290 Kaluwarippuwa West, Katana.
Upon his arrival on 1st August, immediately the Provincial convened the community members as he declared officially the intent of his coming and that “the continuity of the previous Visit of Br. Gerard (the former Provincial) is the basis for the current Visit.” He asked the superior to hand him over the House records and other relevant documents for his perusal during the Visit.
Individual consultation/interview with the three members of the community, namely: Br. Clifford Perera, OP, Br. Jayalath Balagalla, OP, and Br. Jaime Alamillo, OP, was conducted on the second day at the seat of the St. Dominic House in Ketawala, Leula (around Kandy area). As for Bro. Manoj Rasanjana, OP and Hasitha Prabodha Samarakoon, an aspirant, they had their chance for conversation in the morning of 3rd August at Holy Rosary Seminary in Katana.
By evening of the same day, after a three-hour Chapter meeting, the Visit was brought to a close. Some highlights among others during the meeting were cited: assignation of Br. Juan Ponce, OP; focus on formation and education apostolate; members to be faithful in communal practices; vocation promotion is every members’ task/ responsibility; etc.
The last two days of their stay were spent in meeting all other members of the Dominican Family in Sri Lanka.
