The Philippine Dominican Center of Institutional Studies (PDCIS) and the Institute of Preaching (IP) opened academic year 2016-2017 with the Mass of the Holy Spirit on August 1, 2016 at ten in the morning at the Aula San Pio V of the San Pio V Building. Faculty members, students and staff of PDCIS and IP were present. The presider and homilist was Br. Filemondela Cruz Jr., OP, Vicar Provincial. Br. Enrico Gonzales, OP, Acting Moderator of Studies, Br. Clarence Victor Marquez, OP, Director of IP, Br. Romulo Rodriguez, OP, Regent of Studies, the formators, and some priest-professors attended the celebration as concelebrants. Before giving the final blessing, Br. Gonzales declared the academic year open. In his homily, Br. Dela Cruz emphasized the value of Dominican study and charity. He quoted LCO 77, saying, “It follows that our study should principally and zealously be directed to this: that we may be of help to the souls of our neighbors. Dominican study is oriented to love of neighbor expressed in service.” He ended the homily with a reminder to the students: “Mag-aralnangmabuti para makapaglingkodnangmaayos. (Study well so that you may serve well.)”
A sumptuous lunch was served at the Saint Martin de Porres Hall of Santo Domingo Parish. The new prenovices, 10 postulants (7 Indonesians and 3 Filipinos) and two 2nd year aspirants, introduced themselves to the community. Tarlac; RobertusSilverianoRadityaDearbantolo – Solo, Central Java, Indonesia; Romy Boy Ranteallo – TanaToraja, South Celebes, Indonesia. Aspirants: HendrickAlbina – Calbayog City, Western Samar; Raccine Kent Rubi – Davao City. Everyone was delighted as the new formands showcased their talent upstage after introducing themselves. The first year student-brothers performed a lively band presentation. The program ended with Br. Rodriguez imparting the final blessing.
